Hormone Replacement Treatment

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a treatment that replenishes hormones like estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone that the body no longer produces, or produces in significantly lower amounts, due to conditions like menopause or transgender hormone therapy. This can be used to alleviate symptoms of menopause, like hot flashes, mood swings, and vaginal dryness, or to help individuals transition to a more gender-aligned physical appearance and psychological well-being.

In men, HRT aims to:

  • Restore hormonal balance, primarily by addressing low testosterone levels, which can occur due to aging, medical conditions, or other factors.

  • Alleviate symptoms like decreased energy, libido, and muscle mass.

  • Improve overall well-being.

HRT for men often involves testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), where testosterone is supplemented through various methods including daily topical creams, weekly self injections, in-clinic injections, and pellet therapy.

In women, HRT aims to:

  • Relieve menopausal symptoms - HRT can help reduce the severity of hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and other symptoms associated with menopause.

  • Reduce the risk of bone loss and osteoporosis - Estrogen, a key hormone in HRT, plays a vital role in bone health. HRT can help maintain bone density and reduce the risk of fractures, especially in women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI).

  • Improve mood and sleep - Some women experience mood changes and sleep disturbances during menopause. HRT can help improve mood and sleep quality.
